September 2022 - Chad Sowell

Chad Sowell began his public safety career in 1999 as a part-time E-911 dispatcher with the Abbeville Police Department. After 2 years of serving in his hometown, he left and joined the ranks with the Eufaula Police Department as an E-911 dispatcher. Chad worked there as a training supervisor until October of 2001 when he left to take a job with the State of Alabama and the Department of Public Safety as a Police Communications Officer. Chad was assigned to the Opelika Post until 2003 when he transferred to the Dothan Post. Chad was promoted to Police Communications Officer II while serving at the Dothan Post and was selected as Police Communications Officer of the year in 2004.

In August of 2005, Chad was given an opportunity to be part of history. The Henry County E-911 Board voted to name him the first E-911 Director of Henry County. Since that time, Chad has been an active member of the Alabama National Emergency Number Association (NENA) and the Alabama Association of 911 Districts (AAND). Chad has served as a district representative of AAND from 2008 to the present day. In 2011 he was voted in as Secretary of AAND while moving up to President of the organization in 2013. Chad has served on the AAND Legislative Committee since 2008. Chad received his certification in Emergency Communication Administration in 2012 and in 2014 was appointed to the Alabama 911 Board by Governor Ivey to serve a 4-year term. Chad is a past board member with the Abbeville Chamber of Commerce and currently serves on the executive committee of the Headland Area Chamber of Commerce as Secretary.

Chad currently resides in Headland with his wife Alaina and daughter Lucy Claire.
